Controversial Opinions from the Mind of Tracy

Inspired by some very interesting debates on Facebook recently, and also because I have nothing else to do with my time while I wait for my husband to get out of the shower so we can watch a movie together, I have decided to make a post about all of my opinions about the things that I think are really important in life.  Kind of a 25 Things You Don't Know About Me only more substantial content.  Not that anyone needs to care what my opinions are, nor am I trying to persuade anyone into my own line of thinking, but just for the heck of it.

1. To kick things off, I find the concept of someone not wanting to have a baby bizzare.  I couldn't imagine never knowing what it felt like to be a parent.  However at the same time I think there are many people who have children who seriously should not reproduce.  I also think it is obviously acceptable to not want to have children.  It is not an obligation.  That being said, people who do make that choice are not people I understand.  That is the extent of it.  Have or have not, blah blah something something.

2. On the issue of healthcare - I was raised pretty conservative.  Many of those conservative ideas I still value, others not so much.  While I do understand why some would be concerned with the direction President Obama is taking in changing healthcare policy I have to say this:  clearly healthcare was broken, not working, and only getting worse.  Regardless of whether or not Obama's plan is right or wrong, it's about time someone tried SOMETHING and regardless of whether you are republican or democrat you have to admit that the guy has been able to get stuff done.  You can either do something or nothing about a problem and you got to give the guy credit for doing something.

3. Abortion - one of the big reasons I would really really have a hard time voting for a candidate who is pro-choice.  I do not believe abortion is ok.  Regardless of how a child is conceived there are other options besides slicing it up into little pieces and having it sucked out of your through a tube.  There are so many people who can't have kids of their own who would DREAM of being able to have that baby.  Adoption!  I do however think it is a different issue completely if a mother's life was at stake unless she terminated her pregnancy.

4. Gun Control - This is a horrible idea.  It would not have the effect that everyone thinks it would. It is not going to create a magical society where murderers no longer kill or Dick Cheney doesn't shoot people in the face.  Those things are still going to happen.  Gun Safety and Education is key.  I started learning how to shoot a gun before I could ride a bike.  Not once did I then decide to go play with one and shoot a family member.  In fact, the fact that I knew about guns, how dangerous they were, but also how they worked, took all the mystery out of it, so their was nothing for me to ever experiment with on my own.

5. Gay Rights - here is a big reason I don't support a lot of conservative politicians.  I heart gay people.  The MANY I have known, and when you are in the social work field there are many, have been awesome, delightful, smart, and compassionate people.  They have been some of the most real and honest people I have ever met.  And should they be allowed to marry?  HELLZ YES!  3 reasons 1. Because having to fight for what you love every single day of your life makes you appreciate and cherish that love even more, 2. Because who are WE to tell someone who to spend the rest of their lives with?  If it makes someone happy that is all that should matter and 3. What are people afraid the gays are going to do, ruin marriage?  I think straight people have done a good enough job of that themselves.  Pretty sure there is nothing to worry about.  So gay people, you are awesome!

6. People who abuse animals should have every single limb ripped from their body, their bowels sliced open with a chainsaw and then bleed to death.

7. Death Penalty - I am for it.  If someone killed my kid, husband, etc, I know that justice would not be served until that person was no longer breathing.

8. I 100% believe in aliens.  Not totally sure about ghosts but it is a definite possibility.

9. I believe that God speaks to people in many different forms and he knew that their were going to be Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, etc and so he comes to them all in a different form.  I think traditional Christianity that teaches that the only way to get to heaven is by believing in God in Christian form is not giving God enough credit.  As powerful as He is, don't you think he would think this through?  This is why I have a problem labeling myself as a "Christian".

10. Be who you are, say what you feel, fight for what you believe in, and make no apologies for it!

PS~ I love Scott Eilers!!!!! (He told me that a blog not about him is not a good blog, and while this is not all about him, I thought I would at least mention that I am thinking of him!)
